During junior year of high school, my programming really took off because of my usage of Palm Pilots. While I never owned a Palm brand device, the Handsprings and Sony's I did have were very capable for what I needed. The majority of my time was spent programming various projects for the Palm OS, and here I showcase the ones that I still have copies of:

Datalist Download is the most recent program I wrote for the Palm OS. Building on
my older programs of Program List and the Pro version, Datalist incorporates all the same features. It also expands with some new features, including program file versions being included in lists. Datalist is a simple concept that went untapped for a long time, yet demanded a solution. While my previous programs filled the need, Datalist was written differently, mainly from my expanded knowledge compared to years before. Lists are generated quicker and are more accurate. Within a short period, Datalist quickly acquired over 1000 downloads online. For more information about what Datalist does, please see Program List Pro below.

[From Emil J Lesner] Sammy, I am not sure how much time you want to spend on me telling you which of the 115 programs I have crammed into my Zire 72 (That's according to Datalist by Scott Merryfield)....." User's posting.
Program List Download and Program List Pro Download
- Generates a memo, populated with program files in alphabetical order.
- Associated files can be sub-listed below each program.
- File sizes, author information and file type can be included.
- Hack files can be listed separately.
- Files with no known program can also be listed.
m0ngoose Calander Download
- A simple calendar able to store appointments.
- Customizable user interface.
- Palm OS version of my Windows Calander
- Fully compatible with all color and black and white devices.
- Pre-loaded with national holidays.
Copy Infringe Download
- Incomplete project developed along side Program List Pro.
- Program removed duplicate entries within the Memo Pad and Todo List.
- Address Book and Date Book functions were in progress.
- Created because it was somewhat common for Hotsync's to duplicate entries.
- Copy Infringe was on the back burner while other programs were improved.
The Dead Army Download
- This is an adventure game like Zelda, etc.
- A zombie follows the users character to help explore.
- Fire spreads across many burnable items.
- This was a long, on going project through school.
- Never completed, yet was re-written many times.
Program List and Program List Pro are programs that I made while in High School. I was always needing to know what was installed on my handheld incase the batteries went flat, so I wrote this utility in my free time. Basically, the program searches through the memory, detects all the files loaded, and then organizes them into a memo document. The usefulness of this program was not limited only to flat batteries. Listing programs and their related files made it possible to fully delete a program to regain some memory without having unused files remaining. You could save the data to your computer incase it was ever necessary. If there were problems with software conflicts, having a list of installed programs is easy to send to someone for help. I am sure there are many more ways think I can't even think of, as thousands of people have downloaded the combination of these programs over the years I offered them. Like all my programs, everything about the memo generated could be customized; I believe that users should be able to get the results they demand, even from freeware programs.
Copy Infringe was created because I did not want to purchase other programs available at the time. Often times I'll create my own software simply because I want to make it my way and learn in the process. Unfortunately, I often took on too many projects and some would end up being incomplete. I have charged for some of my programs, yet never more than a few dollars. While Copy Infringe worked, it was not fully complete. My time was spent with the more popular Program List Pro.
The Dead Army was my biggest project. Beginning freshman year of high school, The Dead Army was brought to life with QBasic. While QBasic was a DOS based programming language, it quickly became pointless to develop the program when Windows 98 was much more prolific at the time. The Dead Army soon was transferred to Visual Basic 5; then to the Palm OS. The Palm OS seemed the best platform of all for the game to be developed on. The Dead Army took many years of re-writes to get to the point is currently resides. Although it was never completed, The Dead Army taught me the most about programming, because of the very broad range of coding that was required. Many people helped with the projects that deserve credit, while none more than Eric McCormick.
